Spice Lanzarote: The Scots - November, 2010
We went to Spice in Lanzarote for 9 nights in the middle of November 2010.
Flight Edinburgh/Birmingham at 1105 with Flybe took off 20 mins late but no other problem.
Flight Birmingham/Arrecife with Monarch took off 10 mins early and arrived 70 mins early, (110 knot tail wind), but seat
quite uncomfortable.
Taxi from Arrecife airport to Spice 12 Euros, although we had to give the driver the address, he didn't know where it was
just by name.
Check in no problem, room as per photo on the web site, clean and functional. A few minor niggles like U/S light bulbs
all sorted the next morning.
Food varied from adequate to very good; all buffet style. Resaurant seating at individual tables to start with but we
asked if for dinner the tables could all be put together to make one long one and this was done giving a better atmosphere.
Diso much as at Desire/Hedo/Etc., but play room actually part of Disco. Almost everyone, men and women, made some effort
for the themes most of the time; attire ranged from long trousers (pants to most of you) and shirt to posing pouch for men,
and skirt and top to next to nothing for the ladies; but to be fair it got quite cool/cold in the evening, down to around
15C/60F.
Entertainment run by James who is very good at it. The water polo match (with no rules apart from "no blood letting") was
the funniest thing I have seen for some time. Goals being moved, multiple near drownings, tickled feet etc.. Other games
from time to time in the disco in the evening.
PDS. Anywhere and any time apart from in or around the swimming pool.
Hot tub: as per photos on resort web site. Temperature no problem and good bubbles and jets operated by guests, on or off as
desired.
Nudity everywhere apart from in the Resaurant when wrap or shorts required. Some people wore shorts or trousers and shirt,
or wrap and top, for dinner, and changed for theme afterwards.
The resort was less than a quarter full but we had a great time in the company of some wonderful people.
All the staff were efficient, motivated and cheerful.
The resort is not yet 5 star but the owners are working hard to upgrade things as fast as possible. Neither of them is
from a hotel background and it is fair to say that their learning curve is almost vertical at the moment.
We wish them well and the best of luck - they deserve to succeed and we certainly will go back when time etc. permits.
Return flights no great problems apart from the Monarch flight seat which was the most uncomfortable aircraft seat I have
ever had. (Airbus A320 like the outbound one.)
