Firefly Resort

Negril, Jamaica

After experiencing the all-inclusives in Negril (but never yet trying Hedonism II) we decided that we wanted to see the real Jamaica.  We researched places to stay on Negril.com and Jamaicans.com and found Firefly resort.  We chose Firefly because it bills itself as an au natural resort (and the only such place on the non-all inclusive seven mile Negril beach).  I'll skip the flight and travel info.  To make a very long story shorter, we arrived at Firefly on July 27 at about noon, threw our bags into the room and headed toward the beach.  Beach was pristine.  Firefly grounds were beautiful with many native flowers, flying humming birds and parrots. It is a small, rustic, resort with a very personable feel.  They only have a few employees who all live at the "resort."  The resort probably has less than 15 rooms and is situated on the beach.  Firefly's beach is nude but is in a highly trafficked public beach area.  The nude beach area was not conducive to socializing, as there were never any more than four or five people on it at one time.  Women staying at the resort, for the most part, didn't go nude or topless because they had no female comrades to join them.  Men went nude.  But there were only four of us.

Overall firefly was a good place to experience "the real Jamaica." We did have a great time.  Firefly's beach bar had the cheapest food and drinks on the entire beach.  We purchased beer and mixed tropical bar drinks for 100J.  The location of the resort is in the center of the Negril beach so everywhere was very accessible.    Our room was equipped with a kitchen so we could have cooked our own food had we not decided to try every mom and pop restaurant that we ran across.   We rented transportation and traveled the countryside.  We went grocery shopping in a local store.  We visited old friends from previous trips.

We partied at Alfred's Ocean Palace and talked to natives.  We walked the beach (pristine white sand and crystal clear blue water) at night without worry of safety.  We had a good time.  After two nights at Firefly we moved to Hedo to experience the other half of our nude adventure.  Please see Hedonism II trip report.
