Caliente Florida: Steve & Mary - December, 2009
We are a married couple in our late 30’s. We have been to H2 twice before and were looking for something similar in the states. We are not swingers, and don’t really consider ourselves nudists. We do however enjoy the atmosphere of a clothing optional resort. We stayed at Caliente for three nights in December. We had heard that the best times to be at Caliente were the weekends; however, due to our flight times, we couldn’t be there over the weekend. We did get to be there for New Years Eve. The resort has many people that either live on the premises or have a membership and live locally. There were quite a number of guests that have memberships and live a few hours away or out of state. We stayed at the 40 room on site hotel. The hotel was simple and clean. It was equivalent to your typical Holiday Inn type of room. Our room had a refrigerator, standard bathroom, king size bed, and a screened in balcony. We had a view of the volleyball court. There was a mirror above the bed, a feature that we liked at H2, and were happy to see at Caliente. The room price is fairly expensive, about $200 per night. While this is on the high side, Caliente is just about the only game in town if you want a high end resort like nudist facility in the states. We arrived in the afternoon and check in was fairly simple and quick.. The resort was pretty dead when we arrived. The hotel is adjacent to the clubhouse, so it is a short walk from the hotel. The temperature was about 70 degrees but dropped to the low 60’s during the evening. We decided to walk around a bit to get a sense for the resort. The main clubhouse consisted of a piano bar, sports bar, dining room, and large bar area with a disco area. The downstairs of the clubhouse consisted of a spa, boutique, gym, and steam room. We then walked out the back of the clubhouse to see that there were several large pools, a conversation pool, hot tub, tiki bar, etc. The facilities were amazing. The large pool had a waterfall. The two smaller pools and the conversation pool were heated. Other amenities included tennis courts, walking trails, and shuffleboard. The grounds were large and there was no shortage of space or chairs to lie out. We decided to drive down the road to get dinner and then returned to the resort at about 10pm. It was pretty cool, but we pushed ourselves to go try the hot tub. We regretted not having bathrobes, so we had to grab some towels and sprint to the hot tub. It is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the hot tub. The hot tub is in the shape of a four leaf clover. It is not the size of the H2 hot tub, but it does hold 12-18 people. The temperature was perfect, not overly hot, but not too cold either. There were about a half dozen guest in the hot tub and it didn’t long for us to strike up some good conversation in the hot tub. By the way, all the pools and the hot tub are nude and nudity is required. On our second day, we lucked out and had weather in the low to mid 70’s. We thought this may be cold for nude sunbathing, but it worked out just fine. There were probably about 50-100 other guests that were sunbathing around the pool. We really enjoyed the conversation pool, which is heated and very comfortable. Again we met some very nice people and enjoyed speaking with locals and folks from other states. Later in the day we did the walking trails, which go through the caliente neighborhood. The neighborhoods consist of everything from Casitas (small houses), condos, mobile homes, and residential houses. The grounds were beautiful and all the residential property is well maintained. It is a actually quite an interesting place, as there are hundreds or thousands of people that live at Caliente and do everything naked i.e. walking the dog, gardening, yoga, etc. We quickly became very comfortable with this and it didn’t really phase us. During the night, we went back to the hot tub. Many more people had arrived at the resort in preparation for the New Year’s Party, so it was a bit more crowded in the hot tub. Again, good conversation and we even witnessed a little naughty time. Our final day was spent by the pool and in the hot tub. The New Year’s party was a lot of fun. There was a buffet and lots of good club music and a great outdoor band. They went all out prepping the resort for the New Year’s party and we really had a great time. Some more miscellaneous information: · This is not an all-inclusive resort. All food and alcohol is charged back to your room account. This can be pricey, so you may want to consider driving off campus for your meals. There is no shortage of local restaurants. · The service was good and the people are friendly. · The dress code for evening events is variable. We saw everything from complete nudity, to slut wear, to formal wear. You can feel comfortable in whatever you choose to wear and nobody will care. · We didn’t dine much at the resort, but we heard the food was average to good. · The pools are incredible. The waterfall pool is breathtaking. · It appears that they are building a new condo facility with an indoor pool. We saw posters with pictures of the future building. In summary, we had a very nice stay at Caliente. It is not quite H2, but the facilities are better and it certainly the closest think in the U.S. that we know of.
