Hello all, We are getting ready to enjoy our fist stay at Desire in just a couple of weeks! We are very familiar with Hedo 2 and 3, having stayed at these properties for a total of 8 times now, with no issues of water borne illness. What can we expect in Mexico - is the water safe to drink, ice cubes, salads - etc? Can't wait to get there - it looks beautiful and we have heard good things from friends! Thanks in advance for your replies and advice! D&S (lovibond69)

Drink bottled water. It is provided in all the rooms, the bars, and dining area. Salads and other foods are washed in bottled water.

So how is it at Hedo? I will be there very soon and never even thought to ask about the water.

Water at Hedo, as everywhere in Jamaica is clean and safe right from the tap. This will change over time in Jamaica too if they continue to let the Mega-Resorts grow as they have in parts of Mexico. One beef I have always had when vacationing in Mexico has been the need to brush teeth with bottled water even in some very nice hotels.

No issues at all with drinking water on the Hedo II property. Off the Hedo II property, it depends on the water source and treatment methods used. Jamaica is no where near as risky as Mexico where water pollution is a major problem. This is what can happen when you drink shower water in some parts of Mexico while on vacation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9iFRq3wPek&NR=1

This is a Desire Mexico topic. To discuss the water in Jamaica, please start a new topic in the appropriate forum. Thanks.

Bottled water is stocked daily in your room and you can always get more if you need it. Somewhere I read that the resort has its own filtration system. I don't know if this is accurate. One time I absentmindedly drank half a glass of tap water while taking a pill. I freaked out when I realized what I'd done but I was ok. We've had drinks with ice and just plain water from the bar with no bad effects. I have gotten sick on food from the first class lounge at Cancun airport and from something I ingested while visiting family in Mexico City but so far I've been ok with Desire food and drink. We're heading down for our 6th visit soon. It's a wonderful, sexy, sensual, romantic place. Go. Remember to drink bottled water. You'll have the time of your life.

We've been there 5 times. Back when we started going in 2004 I remember seeing little signs on the mirrors in the bathrooms telling you not to drink the tap water and they used to tell you at the desk when you checked in not to also. But I can't say I remember seeing or hearing those warnings the last few years. We usually remember to drink bottled water while there but have forgotten a few times when brushing our teeth or taking aspirin and haven't had any problems and it tasted fine. Could something have changed? You would think if the water wasn't safe they would still warn you about it to avoid a reputation of getting people sick.

Hello all, We just returned from our stay at Desire. If you want to know the truth - we both have a "mild" case of diarrhea. We made excellent friends while we were there and they just reported to us that they were also afflicted in the same manner - she much worse than he. We have read that all food items were safe and tried everything -brushed our teeth with bottled water, etc? The only place I saw where this may have come from was by the buffet. The cook used the same tools to pull uncooked fish, chicken and beef from containers for cooking and then immediatly used the same tools to drop cooked itmes to waiting plates. Live and learn - we had fun anyway.
