We are thinking of going to rooftop resort and wondering if there are any good places to eat near the resort.

We've been there several times and coincidentally going this weekend. There are lots of good places to eat within walking or short-drive distance. Along the boardwalk just east of the hotel there are a lot of smaller restaurants. Across the street there is a pretty good waterfront seafood/sushi restaurant and a hamburger place which is supposedly good. Let's more within a mile or so including Billy's Stone Crabs & Giorgio's Bistro.

Finding good food won't be a problem.

We have been to the Rooftop both on a day pass and as an overnight guest. They are currently remodeling 10 rooms and are doing a few rooms at a time. They have also replaced most of the lounge chairs around the pool. For those of you who have never heard of the Rooftop or not been there. It is in Hollywood, FL just south of Ft Lauderdale and 10 miles north of Haulover Beach (nude beach). The resort is a "Lifestyle" hotel. It is old but clean. Some days there may not be more than a half dozen people by the pool and some days you can not get a chair. Check the hotel website for any special events that may mean more of a crowd. The hotel is clean but does not have many luxuries of a higher class hotel. The furnishings in the rooms are dated and worn out.

They have a website @ rooftopresort dot com. They allow single men so if that is a problem with you, there can be quite a few at times. We have never had a problem telling them no or yes.

We have been irregular-regulars at Rooftop for several years and, even at its shabbiest, we have always enjoyed our visits. It's only about 30 minutes from Haulover and, while the Ocean Palm (REALLY shabby!) is closest, we still prefer Rooftop.

The staff have always been warm, welcoming and attentive despite limited resources. There are a number of decent restaurants nearby although self-catering is always an option. BYOB is the rule ever since Rooftop gave up their liquor license several years ago. Entertainment and parties have tended to be spontaneous and guest-driven and according to the website there are regular events offered.

After more than a year since our last visit we are looking forward to seeing the improvements which are featured on their attractive new website when we go later this month and I'll try to remember to post a trip report.

We went to Rooftop on a Thursday last October with another couple, it was our first trip there and 2nd for the other couple. They were in the process of repairs. We had to wait to get towels but they brought us newly washed and dried towels when they were ready.
It was almost empty, when we went to the pool there was only 1 other person there and she left about a hour after we got there. Then another came and it wasn't long before they were in the 69 position. We 4 watched and then went below. We went into the sex swing room and the girls got in the swing, they just wanted to see what it was like. Later that night the 69 couple came in and went into 1 of the rooms and open the blinds and went at it.

A Canadian couple came in and used the swing so we watched. They didn't invite us in (I don't know if the wife would have) We 4 sat out in the courtyard and drank and watched. When they finished they came out and sat with us and had drinks. As I said it was deserted middle of the week, but we still had fun.

My wife and I are from New England and do not get to visit RT as often as we would like. We prefer weekdays when it is usually less crowded. They are doing a great job in renovating the hotel. We were there a few weeks ago and hope to get back in May.
We found a new Peruvian restaraunt called Pachamamma just around the corner at 321 Johnston St. We are very impressed with the quality of the food and the hospitality of the owner. The prices are more than reasonable, and we always eat there when we get to Rooftop.
When you, and anyone else reading this goes to Pachamamma please tell them you were sent by his very tall customer with the walking stick.
Between Rooftop for your hotel and Pachamamma for some great food you are bound to have a great time! smile

Dick & Jane,

I'll be there with friends that weekend, as I have been for numerous years. It's always a great crowd and wonderful weekend.
See you there!!!

They have made a lot of improvements lately (and they are still ongoing)...

We were at Rooftop last weekend with three other couples to celebrate my birthday when I reached my favorite number!

They've done a lot since our last visit in April, ripped out the fountain and put in a dance floor, extended and refurbished the BYOB bar, lots of new furniture - especially loungers, retractable roof over the atrium, new lighting and sound system and it seems that most of the rooms have now been refurbished.

Friday evening's party was just great, huge energy and the DJ got the music mix and volume exactly right - the dance floor and stripper pole really took a beating! Saturday was not so good, a different DJ who arrogantly supposed everyone wanted techno at full volume. Even when ask for a change of genre and to moderate the sound level all pleas were ignored. Long before midnight most everyone had drifted away to the pool deck where the fun continued...

Around midnight the heavens opened and rain fell in buckets! Very rapidly the staff had the roof deployed - it's an awning really - so the party moved back downstairs in relative comfort except that the DJ had still not learned he was playing the wrong music to the wrong crowd.

Attendance during our three days was down on what we have seen before but still a big and happy crowd who, by and large, were able to ignore the half-dozen or so single men who stood out like sore thumbs and were easily identifiable as either "vinnies" or "wallies". I did have to remind one "vinny" what "NO!" meant but other than that... no problems.

We had a fantastic weekend with our old friends and new ones we met down there. You just know it was a great party when you wake up the following morning with glitter in your belly button!

WE are planning on traveling to the Rooftop the first week in Dec. With prices so high for Hedo and the like, The Rooftop is a great deal 1/2 the price. My wife and I have been once before, last Dec and had a blast. The local area of Hollywood Florida is also wonderfull. We like the beaches, and the boardwalk shops/restaurants. Hedo is out and Rooftop is in! Al

I'm at Roof Top now and it's great!

Even with bad weather this weekend, they have had a great party both Friday and Saturday night. They have had to keep the new "roof" cover on all weekend due to the inclement weather, and it works great!

Just got a room booked today for Halloween weekend. Might have been the last one. Never been there, and some of the reviews are pretty bad, but hoping it's improved. We shall see. Should be fun.

Hi, Diana and I intend to visit The roof Top for the first time on 11/5, There seems to be a lot of reviews from prior years that were terrible, but it appears from recent reviews that the rooms and other areas have inproved significantly. Is this a correct observation ?
Thanks for nay feedback.

kmdmb,
GREAT! I'll see you next weekend! I'm actually flying down for this weekend as well.....It's only a cheap 1 hour flight for me from Jax. Remember, it's BYOB!

They do have free wifi, but I'm not taking my laptop this weekend.....

2011, RT is still definetely not fancy, but it's very unique, clean, and, yes, they have made significant improvements within the last year or so!

So a quick report on Rooftop. Our first time was Halloween weekend. The terrible reviews we saw were troubling, but it was a great time. I would call it a 2 star motel. It is old, has some issues, but for the most part is just fine. It's hard to rate a place like this, because I've seen the type of people that would rate it terribly. So for them, it's not an option. Our room was clean, no mold, no bugs, just a basic motel room. The playrooms were nice. The dance floor/bar area was nice. The pool was clean. The people were awesome. Since it was our first time, and they had special dances with a dj for Halloween, I don't know how it is on just an average weekend or weekday. I can say the facility is fine.(for us anyway). We will be back.
