Hedonism II |
We
returned from Jamaica on Sunday, 26 July after a terrific 5 nights/6
days at Hedo 3. Our overall impressions of the place were very
positive and we would highly recommend the resort to anyone thinking
about going to a clothing optional holiday.
Rather than give a day-by-day accounting, since for the most part we
mostly did the same things every day (at least during the daylight
hours), we want to focus on some of the areas of concern of most
newbies like us.
Being Naked: Having read most of the posts on this forum, we
took the advice of those with more experience regarding our first
public nudity experience. Right after George the Bell Captain
brought us and our luggage to our room (636), we stripped down in
our room to apply sunscreen (we were very un-tanned) and then
wondered, "can we walk around our building nude or do we have to
cover up before going downstairs to the nude pool?" As we learned
later, walking around nude is 'no problem, mon', but, as a
compromise, we went down nude but draped our towels strategically
just in case anyone was surprised/offended.
Once down at the nude pool, any potential feelings of being
uncomfortable or self-conscious at being naked disappeared
IMMEDIATELY and they never re-surfaced. As many have said before, we
don't know how we will cope with having swmsuits on from now on.
Nudity is such a natural feeling and with everyone being nude, it's
no big deal anymore. Sure, there is plenty of eye candy but one can
be very relaxed about taking it all in. So, our advice to other
newbies (and this cannot be repeated too much): just strip down and
join the party - you'll never regret it.
PDAs (Public Displays of Affection): We were there between
groups and according to George, the place was at about 55%
occupancy. This number gradually increased during the 6 days we were
there. So, perhaps our experiences/observations during our stay were
more unique to the more quiet times. We did NOT see any gangbangs or
threesums on the pussy fountain as have been reported here. But, we
did see a few incidences of oral sex in the daytime, including us
(and no one attempted to stop the happy participants) and some sex
in the hot tub (again, including us). We didn't stay in the hot tub
past about 2:30am and while we had sex in the tub a couple of times
and we saw a few other couples similarly engaged, we did not see
anything other than couples, i.e., no three- or more-somes.
Our favourite place for PDA was the nude beach, either on a lounge
or in the shallow and extremely warm waters of the Caribbean Sea! In
the early part of our stay, very few people were there, though by
our last full day (Saturday) there were quite a few people there.
Swapping, Sharing: As stated above, we saw no evidence of
this while we were in the nude pool/beach area. But, we did not stay
up all night (our last morning there, we heard people still chatting
in the hot tub area at 5:15am!), so maybe we missed out. We went
with an open mind and wanted to experience whatever was on offer,
but as far as we were concerned, no offers we extended and we never
really had a chance to extend on offer to any other couple.
Theme Nights: Our experience at the Disco was a mixed one,
but I think it was because of the lower numbers. We learned not to
go to the Disco too early - says it starts at 11pm but
realistically, there was no point in going before midnight or even
12:30am. On the Jamaica Theme night, the turnout was pretty good,
people were dancing etc. We went outside (along with a few other
people and then some people stripped off and started going down the
tube slide (part of which is clear plastic as it passes through the
Disco). We finished our drink watching them splash in the Prude Pool
down below and when we returned inside, the Disco was empty. We are
not sure where everyone went, but we went back to our room, stripped
off and went to the nude hot tub.
Our advice is to make sure you bring some of the Theme Night outfits
- it is definitely fun and if the resort is at capacity, and
especially if there is a group or two there, you are bound to have
fun. Besides, you'll likely end up in the hot tub later and that is
where you can have as much fun as you care to have.
Food, Drinks, etc.: We found the food to be pretty good. We
ate at the buffet on three nights and found it to be excellent on
two out of three nights - best to go early rather than later. We ate
at the Japanese restaurant - a very good effort but if you are
expecting a true teppanyaki experience, well, remember, this IS
Jamaica not Japan. The Italian place, Pastifari, is much better. The
air conditioning was not working then but the food was very tasty.
We think the real problem is that there does not seem to be a
competent manager and as a result, the staff are not supervised
enough to ensure good service. We started at a table for two with a
pretty good waiter but then were invited to join another couple at a
table where the waiter was pretty hopeless. He really had not clue
how to give good service, a fault that we think could be fixed by
being properly trained and supervised.
By far the most impressive staff member (and we do not mean to
minimise the efforts of any other good staff there) was Mr John
Campbell of the Nude Pool Grill. What a wonderful person! And, even
though he is working in an open air grill next to a pool full of
naked people, he acts as though he is the head chef at a 5-star
restaurant. He is a stickler for cleanliness and he really takes
pride in the preparation and presentation of even the simplest meal.
What We Would Do Next Time: We would NOT go to the Disco too
early. We would NOT feel as self conscious about daytime PDA and
would go with whatever we felt like doing - no one really gives a
rat's ass! We would stick around the hot tub later and be open to
exploring whatever comes our way!
Overall Impression: Having stayed at some very nice 5-star
resorts in Asia, if this level of service and creature comforts are
what you consider the minimum of what you will accept, then Hedo 3
is probably not for you. It is not a new resort and though they try
to keep it up, it is definitely not 5-star. This is a place you go
to for the freedom to do what you want, when you want; and it is a
place to meet some pretty terrific, like-minded people. If you are
open-minded and accepting, you will find it reciprocated tenfold.
However, if you are judgemental and critical, if you are impatient
and self-absorbed, then you are probably not a Hedo person and we
suggest you consider another resort.
Would We Return to Hedo? Hell Yeah! However, our kids really
gave us stick about going off on a resort holiday without them, so
it may be that we won't return in 2010. But, who knows? We are
definitely clothing optional lovers, so we doubt that we will be
able to resist for very long.
