Bill & Nancy - September, 2007 (JWST)

JAMAICAN WATERSLIDE TEAM

2007 Trip Report

The 8th Annual meeting of the Jamaican Waterslide Team (JWST) is now history.  The fun group descended on Hedonism III during the period 8 to 15 September, although some arrived earlier and some stayed longer.  All in all, the trip was a great success with reports coming in from many members of having a fantastic trip and planning for next year already.  The group numbered 88 this year representing 20 states in the US and 7 countries.  Ages ran from the 20’s to the 60’s with the average around 40.  It was also an interesting mix of couples and singles, plus a mix of first-timers and veterans.

Our week began with our Welcoming Committee greeting as many of our group in the lobby as possible as they arrived and left the airport bus.  Each member was given a packet with personalized door cards, name tags, lanyards and other (stuff).  Name tags carried a small number on the back which matched two others in the group.  Each person had to find their two matches in order to qualify for a grand prize drawing at our welcome party on Monday. This was a fun game that caused everyone to meet lots of people they might not have otherwise met until later in the week.  The proliferation of distinctive lanyards throughout the resort let everyone know who the other members of the group were.

The JWST does not schedule a lot of activities to make the vacation week too restrictive, but we did hold a few events that most everyone thought to be fun.  Sunday saw our now famous “Wear Mesh and Glow” theme night for the disco preceded by a grand march of the whole team through the resort on the way to the disco.  We sure “lit up” the night.  Monday was our welcome party with the theme of “Naughty T-shirts”, the best of which won prizes.  Tuesday evening was our Team Dinner and group photo with the theme of “Sexy Little Red Dress” for the ladies.  Now THAT was a sight to see.  Wednesday, a number of the group tried out the Wet and Wild Nude Catamaran Cruise and most said they would do it again as it was a fun afternoon.  Finally on Thursday afternoon we held our “Erotic Gift Exchange”.

The resort had a few issues while we were there but did their best to overcome them.  Due to a new supply distribution system set up by SuperClubs, some items were in short supply such as rafts in the pool and some liquors on the bar.  The large dryer was also broken so towels etc., were trucked over to Breezes every day to be laundered there.  This was all fixed while we were there.  Food was excellent in all restaurants as always, and service was right up to the regular Hedo III standard of excellence.  Renovation continues and most of the rooms appear to have been upgraded with new door locks and electronic safes in the rooms.  Most of the buildings appeared to have been repainted as the colors were bright and shining in the tropical sun.  Room servicing was great except for the towel issues.  As usual, management responded immediately to any issues that were brought to their attention.

The highlight of the week as far as the resort goes was the 8th anniversary celebration, which is always held in conjunction with the JWST week.  As the oldest Hedo III group actually founded at Hedo III we especially enjoy helping the resort to celebrate this big day.  Dinner was served on the main pool deck and the chef’s pulled out all stops for a fantastic dinner under the stars.  This year the big show of the evening was the Miss Hedonism III contest in which three members of the JWST competed with other guests.  Of course, one of our women won with a performance that brought down the house, and another took third place with a great performance.  All of the contestants did a superb job however, and provided great entertainment.  One of our members also won the wet T shirt contest, but that’s a whole “nother story.

The best part of the week as far as the JWST goes was the interaction of the group as a whole.  People who had never met before came together and formed friendships that will last a long time.  It started with our twice weekly chats months in advance of the trip, and flowed into the week’s activities in Jamaica.  Everyone seemed to bond very well with the rest of the group.  Because of the large numbers of people and the diversity of the group it would not have been unusual for various cliques and small splinter groups to form, but we saw very little of that.  It was fun to look out over the nude pool and see all the smiling faces and JWST lanyards interacting with each other.  The same was true in the restaurants, piano bar and disco.  It was like going on vacation with 80 or so of your closest friends.  No one ever had to have dinner alone or spend an evening just by themselves unless they chose to do so.  The major issue that most of us faced at the end of the week was the fact that our faces hurt from laughing so much.  We’ve all said it before………none of us go to Hedo for the beach, the food, the resort or anything else.  We go for the people we meet and with whom we share experiences.

We’d also like to extend out thanks to our various committee Captains such as our Welcome Committee, Men’s and Ladies Massage Team Captains, Volleyball Captain and of course, our Slide Captain.  Each of these folks and their committees worked hard to make sure everyone had a great time.

A special thanks to Mr. Kevin Levee, Hedo III’s General Manager and all of his staff.  As always, everyone from senior management down to the gardeners worked really hard to provide outstanding service and to make our vacation experience memorable.

The Jamaican Waterslide Team will meet again during the period 6 to 13 September 2008 at Hedonism III in Jamaica.  Come and join us.
