Kurt - October, 2005

Just got back from Jamaica on Wednesday and I finally have the time to get on the computer.

Our trip to Hedo III (October 28 - November 12) went very well...I'll try to get as much as I can into this report.
We got into Sangster in the early afternoon and after some minor problems with customs there, were quickly taken care of by SuperClubs lounge (the cold bottles of water were very welcome) and on our bus to Hedo. We got to Hedo relatively quickly with two dropoffs and the obligatory stop at the roadside tourist trap. As we went through our luggage at checkin we noticed, much to our dismay, that one of the suitcases had been left behind. It took a little help from guest relations, but we tracked it down in customs and it was delivered to the resort a couple of hours later.
We got to our room in the 600 block and I was a little put off by the musty smell in the room but one quick call to maintenance and they had someone down there right away. They took apart the airconditioner and completely cleaned it out. After that there was no odor at all. The room was spotlessly clean and everything was working as it should. And we didn't feel ill once.
It didn't take us long to strip down and get ourselves out to the nude pool for some dirty bananas and meeting new people. Something I did notice was that the hot tub was emptied every day (sometimes twice a day) we were there and scrubbed out. This was a welcome sight as in the past I hadn't been witness to this phenomenon. The water staff were actually doing a pretty damn good job of keeping the pool clean and regulating the chemicals. The only problem I had was a lack of my alchohol-of-choice (VX).

There were a few instances that I heard of people getting sick...oddly enough it was only females (with the exception of one male for a few hours). No one is quite sure of the cause (including said sick people). They got quite sick for a couple of days mid-trip and then were well enough to come out and enjoy themselves. I didn't hear of any other bouts of illness (aside from self induced) and I was keeping my ears open in light of recent postings.

Another thing I noticed was the complete lack of wristbands...there didn't seem to be much in the way of locals at all...or they were being very discreet about it. There was also a pleasant lack of hookers to be found on the resort. This trip was pretty quiet in terms of unpleasant incidences. There were a few complaints about people with airhorns and whistles in the wee hours of the morning, but I imagine it was just some people out having some harmless fun...as long as they weren't damaging anything or hurting anyone, I really couldn't care less.

The food was fairly good this trip...David was doing an excelllent job of keeping on top of his staff. The selection just wasn't as good as hoped...it was there for the asking though. There was one night that there wasn't anything at all I was interested in eating, but a quick query of the kitchen staff and I was able to procure a pretty damn good cheeseburger. The only real problem here was the annoying inability of the salt to leave the shakers.

ECs were doing a great job, as usual, of keeping people entertained. There were some newbie ECs we had fun breaking in. They did an excellent Halloween production and were really getting into the spirit of things, even though Halloween isn't a recognized yearly event in Jamaica.

Our trip to Hedo ended well, we bid our friends (old and new) goodbye and spent the next week at a private villa down the road visiting friends and family down there. Our real problems started at Sangster on our departure. Our airline of choice got us mixed up in the wrong lineup and ultimatley we missed our flight. After numerous problems with this airline, we finally made it home. I can't remember for the life of me when I was so pleased to see our miserble NorthWest weather again.

Can't wait till we do this again!
