Lisa & Bud - June, 2002
Dates: 6/9/02 - 6/14/02
A friend & I went as singles to Hedo III. I
had booked the midnight flight & after waiting a bit for her flight to arrive,
we headed out on a shuttle to our first time at Hedo. On our way to the
resort the shuttle driver asked if we had been to the "Zoo" before, commented
that pretty wild things happen there & said not to get too wild ourselves
before dropping us at the entry way. We were not able to check in right
away, but our main baggage was held by the resort until our room was ready &
we were able to walk around, eat, drink & be as merry as we wished to be while
we waited. There were some microscopic ants in our room, but they didn't
seem to be a major problem as we didn't bring any food to the room...
Just to give an example of night time activities
at the main stage: the first night was the battle of the sexes contest/in
house scavenger hunt, one item they asked for during a scavenger hunt was a
vibrator & a guest in the audience quickly stood up & pulled one from his
pocket while running to the stage, we were laughing so hard at what everyone
just had one them....opened our eyes a bit to the real hedo out there!
It was very rainy/cloudy on our first real day at Hedo so we ended up going
on the shopping tour in the afternoon, alot of shops & items to buy.
Some shops were more pushy in selling their wares than others, but overall we
ended up with plenty of souvenirs/early xmas presents to bring home (highly
recommend the "hummingbird" creme rum - only found in small bottles - I don't
even usually like rum at all, but that stuff is smooth & yummy!).
The next day (Tuesday) it was still cloudy, but we
laid out for a while anyway and actually got a bit burnt - both of us had tans
& didn't expect major burns, so I would highly suggest bringing & wearing a
15-30 spf sunscreen to avoid this. I also thank those who suggested
bringing an insulated mug or bottle. My friend & I used ours non-stop
for soda & water daytime - I had one with a strap which was very nice as I
didn't have to hold on to it all the time & could take it easily on trips.
You can fill these with drinks at the bar or with water/soda using the machine
in the main dining area anytime. It was very hot & humid, so cool water
was very nice until night time when the dirty bananas came out - highly
suggest trying one or several of those too!!
One thing we noticed was that clean beach towels
were not always available in the racks, so while I am hoping this is just a
single occurance, I will give the hint to grab one for yourself after going to
the disco the night before - that way you don't have to worry about finding
one the next day... While we did go to the nude pool a few times, we
found our niche in the Quad pool area where it was a great mixture of nude,
topless & prude people with a bigger pool area. While we were single, we
met some awesome couples & singles there that we really miss now that we are
back in the real world. One couple renewed their vows & it was very
nicely done.
The food was very good, the main dining area had a
wide variety of different buffet style meals & I can only suggest that you go
soon after it opens as that is when everything is at it's best. We did
get to eat in the pastafari restaurant, fancier meals & atmosphere, but were
not able to get into the Japanese place at all due to it being reserved every
night. I would suggest that you make reservations asap when you get
there for these or right away in the morning as if it is booked, you can only
get in if someone doesn't show up for their reservation (15 minutes after the
time).
As a separate activity I went to the dolphin cove
for a swim with the dolphins, this was a mixed experience & don't know that I
will do it again....while the dolphin part was just awesome, it is very much
a spot that is trying hard to get tourists & doesn't have the space/care for
the other animals that I would have liked to see... They had a jungle
trail that had animals in very small areas (snakes in buckets, a single goat
in a pen....) & probably shouldn't have ever had them at all - kind of
depressing. The shuttle driver who took me there was very interested in
Hedo III as he drove mainly in Ocho Rios & didn't get out to Hedo much - I
think the locals think it is one mass orgy & do want a peep at us "Zoo"
animals!! HA! You may be able to do just about anything at Hedo,
but it is all optional depending on your boundaries (though, these do lower
quite a bit when you are in such a relaxed place!)...tried to explain this to
the driver, but I think he still had mass nudity in his head! =)
The week went by fast & soon it was time to go. We
did the in-house check in which is held between 10:45 & 11:45am. The air
jamaica attendant checked our baggage & gave us our boarding passes at that
time, so all we had to do was go to the airport & bring our carry on bag -
very nice!! It was sad to leave the people we had met, but would
definitely recommend Hedo III to those who want a bit of spice & relaxed
attitude beyond the normal resorts.
I want to thank DennyP for having this site as the
message board & these trip reports were extremely helpful for us prior to our
trip as well as a continued connection now that we are back home.
ps. If you were at Hedo III & have pics of
Sean, Romeo or the other entertainment staff, please email them to me - my
pics from the Thursday night talent show / strip dance didn't turn out & I
would love to have a good pic from that night or any other time.
