Joe - November, 2002

Well just got back from 7 days at Hedo 3 and figured I’d give a report on the trip.  Instead of going through day-to-day stuff, I figured I’d just pick a few topics and give you my take on them.

Air Travel – This was my first time flying American Airlines did a great job and would gladly use them again.  On the way back was particularly cool; on the leg from Miami to Dallas I was on a newer 777 and it was set up great!  Lots of leg room, TV screen on backs of chairs, etc.  Just a note for all of you though; if you are connecting back into the states through Miami to another destination, you may want to make sure you have AT LEAST 90 minutes between connections.  I made mine in the nick of time!

Bus Rides – Had heard a lot about how crazy they were and wasn’t really bothered by my rides.  However, I was raised in the NYC area so … J   Also, I’ve read a lot about alternate transportation to the resort.  My suggestion is to just take the bus for two reasons; the ride isn’t all that bad and the areas you will have to drive through.  We drove through a couple of towns on the way and I have to say I would not feel safe at any time going through there unless I was with a group of people.

Accommodations – I was on the first floor of the 200 building.  I found that there was one great advantage and one thing you may want to be aware of.  The great advantage was walking out of your room to get in a pool was pretty cool!  Makes for a quicker walk/wade to the pool bar (more on that later) – however, be advised that if you get a room near the hot tub you will subject to the noises that come from the hot tub late at night!  As for the room itself, it was quite comfortable with A/C that was really cold!!!  I found I spent a little more time in it than I wanted to the last day or so because I ended up getting sick from lack of sleep and non-lack of fun stuff and staying up too late, so I was really glad the room was good J

Food/Drink – I had heard a lot about the so-so food at the resort.  I do not agree at all!  I thought the food was excellent, especially anything grilled.  I had also heard some bad things about Pastafari, to which I also say … I do not agree at all!!  I ate their twice and really enjoyed it.  The alcohol was usually name-brand.  It was especially cool to have a 7/7 in my hand before even asking for it after a couple of nights at a couple of different places, but more on the excellent staff next …

Staff – A MAJOR thumbs up here.  As long as you treat them with the respect and courtesy they truly deserve and NOT do the “Ugly American” thing on them (which I am sad to say I saw a couple of times), they will do the same.  A SPECIAL Thanks to Ionie and Sunshine in the Quad Pool bar; they were awesome!!!!!!  I think I enjoyed their company as much as, or more, than many of the cool people I met.

Quad – Once again, I had heard how dull and boring this area was.  Now I’m not of the “wild man” mode anymore so maybe my opinion here is a little jaded, but I had a great time in this area.  Lots of friendly people, Ionie and Sunshine were great bartenders, and many people taking advantage of the “O” part of “CO”.  The pool was kept next to immaculate my whole stay there.

Nude Side – I went over a few times and it was fun.  As is to be expected, the atmosphere was a little more “charged” than in the “prude” side … but not as much as you may think.

Guests – For the most part I had an awesome time meeting many great people.  As I was traveling alone, I was a little concerned that couples would shy away from me and label me with the dreaded “Wally” or “Vinnie” tag.  Since my only goal on this trip was to have fun and not chase women (more on THAT later, too), it was very easy to hook up with people.  Of course there were a couple of people I hope not to see ever again too, but that is the same no matter where you go.  Vince Neil from Motley Crue was there, along with Playboy, adding to the fun for a lot of the guests.  I met many kinds of different people from all walks of life and was really happy to see most were outgoing.  A funny moment was when I met I guy from New Jersey in the Quad pool and found out that he had grown up in my old hometown in the 60s.  So we did a lot of reminiscing … and a lot of drinking too J

“Getting Naked” – I was a little apprehensive before I went off doing this, but as long as I was hanging out with cool people I was totally comfortable.  However, the “prude” side of me was a little uncomfortable when I came across the occasional PDA.  As far as the naked waterslide is concerned, JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Man what a rush!!!  Lots of different body types, so don’t be concerned with looks.

Disco – My ears are still ringing from how loud it was … can’t say I was too fond of it, except that it was a convenient place to get another 7/7 after a waterslide!

Piano Bar – This is where I spent a couple of hours every night and had the most fun.  Usually lots of cool people there, especially early in the night.  The thing to do seemed to be to go to the nightly activity, go to the piano bar, then go to the disco.  I got to sing and play a few songs a few nights, which was a great way to meet people (and I was really thankful for all of the compliments!!!).  A great memory I’ll take away from the week is playing “Smokin’ In The Boys Room” with Vince Neil singing …

GENERAL THOUGHTS:

A)      One thing that I think couples that are considering doing a lot of nude stuff should be ready for are positive comments and looks (albeit brief in most cases) from other guests while in the buff.  I saw at least three couples get into arguments over this.  My feeling is that the guy didn’t like the fact that his girl was smiling and responding to a comment that was given to her by another naked guy.  I guess it takes a certain level of comfort and maturity to deal with this, so be ready … In general I saw a few other arguments in couples, two of them nearly coming to blows (and not the fun kinds), that I have to attest this to the atmosphere of the place.  There is a raw energy in the place that will lead to openness.  You may see your significant other react in a “charged atmosphere” differently that he/she would in the real world, so be ready ...

B)      Single guys; if you are looking for a sex rampage, look elsewhere.  It didn’t matter how “hot” a guy was, the vast majority of them had no chance of hooking up no matter how hard they tried.  In fact, one of the great joys I had was watching a particular “Vinnie” I met continually get his overly inflated ego shot to tiny little pieces by women that were rubbing on him after he found out that they were there for work and not play, if you get my meaning.  Go there with the expectation of having fun and you will.  Go there with the expectation of humping your brains out and you’ll be very disappointed.  Another thing to be ready for is the couple who seem to enjoy knocking single guys.  It was very very rare (late at night), but it’s out there.  I had one individual one night continually tell me in a spiteful way “how sorry” he was.  Since I was on vacation and had no desire to experience the Jamaican judicial system, I just cracked back at him a few times.

Ok, so the big question … would I go back again?  Absolutely!!!  However, I would do it in a group as my first preference.  SO, if there are any groups looking to travel there again next year and need a piano player, give me a shout!!!!

Lastly, if anyone from Hedo 3 management reads this, I think the staff there is great!!  PLEASE extend my thanks to Sunshine and Iodie at the Quad Bar and see if they can send me a 7/7 in the mail!!!! J

Thanks for all of the great tips and suggestions and I hope this helps anyone looking to make a decision to travel to Hedo 3,

Joe
