Hedo III trip, Oct 2000
Visited Hedo III for the second time in Oct 00 with a group assembled
by a friend in the travel business.
Background: I’m a single guy, so I suppose that puts me on some
people’s hit list. More on that below. I
have enjoyed six trips to H II and now two to H III. Hooked up with nice ladies on some trips, spent the week on
my own on others. Never thought a
thing about it until I began reading some of the postings on the message
board.
I wanted to comment on some surprising things that happened last time
at H III. I also hope to encourage everyone to avoid repetitions of the
same.
Trip down was the usual; uneventful flight, easy customs and baggage,
Mad Max bus ride. I noticed a
tendency to overload the bus, but that just made it more cozy.
Check in was no sweat, but I always have a small carry on with
sunscreen and other beach supplies and don’t expect to visit my room right
away after arriving. Had a room on the quad.
Didn’t notice a noise problem most nights, but I’ve learned to
sleep through noise (and contributed to a fair share).
Everyone there was great all week with just three exceptions. The
guests were marvelous, the staff fantastic.
I have never had that much body paint applied by ladies I just met!
There was a photo shoot underway for some sort of swimsuit calendar
that week, so there were some truly stunning women on the resort, including
two very young things with accents straight out of Brooklyn( think “The
Nanny”, one even looked like Fran).
My impression was they were model trainees, or photographers
girlfriends. More on them later.
Now for the issues:
1. On the second night of the trip (a Monday) we were in the
piano bar just about midnight when one younger fellow decided to try twisting
the head off an older gentleman!! Young
buck was screaming “stay away from my woman”;
Older gent couldn’t speak (the other fellow’s headlock blocked his
airway), and the young buck’s lady was crying she had no idea what he was
talking about. A real buzz
killer. It took all of us there
to pull young buck off the older guy; the bartender got security.
The young couple were walked to their room and the older fellow
escorted to his by security (young buck was making threats as they led him
out.) Everyone left the bar
at that point. Amazingly, young buck was still on the resort the next day and
for three more days after!
2. On Tuesday night the two young New York model trainee types
were in the Piano Bar and with minimal encouragement began topless dancing on
the bar by the piano. It soon
became nude dancing. Some couples
from the nude side came in with a strap on, which one NY gal donned and began
a really unique show with her friend! They
eventually had a trip and fall problem but two of us caught them, and the
night continued. All was well so
far;
3. Wednesday evening the group was again in the piano bar and
the NY gals came in. This time they insisted on singing. After one number a couple from Canada took the mike, and
being very good were asked to keep going.
After a few minutes on of the NY gals started yelling and threw a glass
at one of the Canadiennes!! (I
guess she disliked her choice of song, or didn’t get the one she requested).
We got her subdued after a second glass went flying, and the two of
them were taken to their room. The next morning both gals were put on a bus for the airport.
Has anyone encountered this sort of thing before?
Now the final item. Thursday
about midnight there were a large number of folks at the nude hot tub,
including several men and women from our group, three other couples, one gay
couple, and perhaps one or two single guys.
After helping one of our female members (who has a visual impairment
problem) get off to her room, I decided to hit the sack, and went to the quad.
One couple had left just before me, and were about 30 feet ahead.
As we entered the quad I overtook them, just as another couple passed
on their way to the hot tub. I heard this
couple ask the first how the hot tub was, and the reply was “It sucks, too
many single guys”!
Now, I know there was a fair mix of people at the tub, not too many
singles (though perhaps being one, I would not notice).
This otherwise nice couple however, ignored our mixed group and the two
gay fellows and commented on the (unobtrusive, I thought) single guys.
Having read a lot of comments on “Vinnies” and “Wallies” on
this site I had begun to wonder what the problem was.
I now wonder if the problem is more in the insecure minds of some
coupled up guys than in reality.
Perhaps it is time for all us veterans to advise SuperClubs that both
Hedos have become the kind of couples clubs Sandals wishes it could be, and
suggest they make them formally couples only and open a Hedo IV that would be
an actual Singles Resort! Then
the singles and couples would not have to mingle.
Other than the violence and the attitude from that one couple
it was a fine trip, as all my visits to 2 and 3 have been in the past.
Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with the incidents?
