Trip: June 9 – 16, 2001

Question: “Do the people make the resort or does the resort make the people?”

After working 75-hour weeks for the past 6 months, we were ready for a break! This week was the only time we would be off, together, and wanted to totally unwind.

A couple of years ago we had planned to go to Hedo-2 but was turned off when they had some civil unrest due to an increase in gas prices. This time we decided to go to Hedo-3 as it coincided with a lifestyle week that we heard was always fun.

We posted our trip dates on Denny’s site and soon after were invited to join the ‘Cave Dwellers’. At that time it was called simply ‘Hedo III June 2001’ but what it evolved into was something very special. At the end of this trip report, I hope you would get a sense of this, as I cannot explain this in words.

We left for the airport with more clothes than we needed and a mind full of Cave Dwellers who posted their pictures on the Yahoo club site. Flew down with Air Canada and of the 200+ people on the flight, we were the only ones going to Hedo-3. Everyone else was off to Grand Lido Braco/Negril/etc or Breezes/Couples/etc.

The bus ride was not as bad as I thought. Yes, the overtaking on the bends was a bit unnerving but was better that what I read in other people trip reports. We had the Red Stripe pit stop and were offered ‘something for the head’ but it was so discreet that we did not pick up on it until much later.

As we stepped off the bus, before checking in or making sure our bags were taken off the bus, we spotted Russell and DeAnn. After introducing ourselves and getting a warm ‘Cave Dweller’ welcome, Russell advised us to check in as soon as possible as there were a few people being bumped. However, check-in was smooth (Thank God!) and we were swiftly taken to our room. Our room was on the 3rd floor in the Quad section. It was a room we soon grew to love!! (Later) The bellhop who carried our bags to the room refused to accept a tip. Stuffing it in his pocket and shooing him away before he protested any further solved this.

After dumping the stuff into the safe we grabbed a bite in the Scotch Bonnet restaurant and headed straight to the nude pool. Met a ton of people, at first it was a bit intimidating just trying to remember everyone names and faces with their email address names. However, afterwards it was all “family”.

Saturday: Our first night was an early night with traveling and all. The theme was “Tropical Splendor” and we ate in the Terrace restaurant. Dress was cool and casual. Soon after supper we returned to our room and were asleep. Little had I known, it was the only night we would be asleep before 4AM!

Sunday: Our first full day at Hedo. After breakfast we settled in at the nude beach but soon found that the nude pool was ‘Grand Central’ of the resort. Met the most wonderful bunch of people … Mick & Ms. Jeffery, what a pair! Later, Jeffery gave us some ‘film’ which was put to use for the next few evenings. Philip & Jane, what more can be said, a Hedo-3 legend … “crazy Brit from Texas in Jamaica” … a dangerous combination, no doubt. Eddie & Annette … wonderful couple who organized the tattoos, beads and the gift exchanges on the Monday night. Hugh & Judy … got a taste of that southern charm and WE WANT MORE!! The NHL Blues fans, Jim & Pattie … we have some unfinished business, girl! …. Just to name just a few.

Sunday night was “Battle of the Sexes” which was wild! There was a girl which gave a fake orgasm … was better than any 1-900-*** line I’ve ever heard!

The rest of the week was just one fantastic dream! Regardless of what time you got down to breakfast or supper there was always someone to share a table with. Several of the entertainment co-ordinators had breakfast with us, great getting to know them, warm, friendly, honest people.

Monday night we had our gift exchange in the Japanese restaurant. We brought gifts for Mike (& Pam) and Maureen (& Jack). We got gifts from Dave (& Deb) and Pattie (& Jim). Brenda got a ‘personal massager’ and batteries were included (Gee thanks, Dave!) and David got a custom made CD with the Cave Dweller theme song “Hooked On a Feeling” and edible undies. Hope more groups do this, as it was such a great idea! … thanks to Eddie & Annette for organizing this.

Tuesday night was the pajama party … wow a voyeur’s paradise! Advice … leave the flannel pajamas at home, more Frederick’s of Hollywood or Victoria’s Secrete. As expected, most men were in shorts or at best, boxers with the ladies taking up the theme with an array of lingerie styles.

Wednesday was ‘Bare as you Dare’. Simple theme … go in and remove bits of clothes until in undies or bare.

Thursday was Toga night. Togas spanned the spectrum from traditional Roman style togas to Tarzan type loincloth togas. Advise; buy your our material and travel with it. Get sheer fabric, e.g. from Wal Mart, with a few safety pins.

Friday was Masquerade night. The Cave Dwellers gangs all wore caveman costumes, basically animal print material covering as little as possible. The Cave Dwellers had supper at the Italian restaurant. Services were a bit slow but it was great sharing our last night with a fantastic bunch. Our table had Pattie & Jim, Gina & Rick and Bill & Lorraine.

Saturday was departure day. It was depressing to leave this crazy bunch of people. Our last breakfast was with Jim & Pattie, which helped cheer us up! Our bus was scheduled for an 11:00AM airport run but did not leave until about 11:30. Jim & Pattie, Rick & Gina and Wade & Cuevas saw us off which was really, really great. Exchanged email addresses, etc. Leaving the resort was like my college graduation. Parting with close friends with the chance that this may be the last time you see them but hoping it is not.

Hot topics on ‘dennyp.com’ site:

Shaved or not: For the week we were there; most if not all the women were either completely shaved, shaved with a strip or closely trimmed. For the guys, about 80% were, again, shaved or closely trimmed. Importance … don’t think anyone cared, it is all personal preference.

Natural or enhanced: Yes there were lots of breast augmentations. Don’t think anyone felt any better or worse because of it.

Hard-bodies: Yes there were those who looked as they spent a few hours per week in the gym. Again, don’t think they got any more attention than anyone else did.

Vinnies & Wallys: We, personally, did not encounter any negative experiences and we were in the hot tub all but 1 night. The single guys who we met were great, absolutely gentlemen.

Disco & locals: Again, no problem, mon. Read that the disco was hot, temperature-wise. Can’t understand how you can be warm dancing in just a thong … or nude on the bar, right Philip! :) If there were locals there, great, they must have been having a good time like the rest of us.

Bumping: We were not bumped but witnessed a couple who got bumped. They had a letter from the resort confirming their registration with a room number.

Sex police: Ha! Ha! Ha! What sex police?!?

Being hit on: Just because someone comes up to you and during the conversation ask if you are in the lifestyle, it does not always mean they ‘want’ you.

P.D.A.: Yes, during the day. Yes +, during the night. However, was very discreet.

Concerns (Wishes):

Beer: Wished there were more than Red Stripe. However, the amount of Red Stripe David drank, you would think he had shares in the company!

Nude & Clothing-optional: Wished the prude side were clothing-optional.

ShowTime program: Hated the filming … nuff said!

Flash photography: No cameras should be allowed in the disco. No problem if people were taking pictures of their significant other or their friends. But this was not the case and we’ve already heard pictures taken when we were there have already surfaced on web sites.

Hi-lights of our vacation:

Cave Dwellers!!! Philip & Jane, Eddie & Annette, Russell & DeAnn, Maureen & Jack, Dave & Deb, Bill & Lorraine, Bob & Cassandra, Wade & Cuevas; Pattie & Jim, Rick & Gina, Dave & Lyn, Mike & Pam, Hugh & Judy, Jordan & Christina, etc, etc, etc.

Renewal of vows: Was as enjoyable as June 2, 1990 … date we were married.

Quad area: Tanning deck at 3:00 in the morning! Showering with the shades up and watching others do the same! Dressing with the windows open! Doing the dirty and looking up to see someone waving back! Forget reality television … “Quad vision” rules!!!

Threesome, foursome, sixsome: No explanation required!

Staff: Incredible people. Wish I could extend the same hospitality if they were ever in Canada.

Water slide: Nude invasion of the slide on afternoons!

Conclusion:

We think there is something very special that happens when “ordinary people”, “Hedonism” and “Jamaica” come together. We sure were glad we were part of it!

Cavedwellers; love always,

David & Brenda
