Don & Ana - December 2006

12/11-12/21

Although we returned from Mexico on 12.21, the trip is still fresh in my mind.

This was our second trip to Desire, the first was in early June.

We enjoyed ourselves even more this trip than on our first.

The resort is in excellent condition.

During our 10 day stay there was only one problem, a laundry break down, which only delayed the delivery of bath robes.

This was remedied in one day and everything else went perfectly.

Historically, December on the Yucatan coast is dry and mild.

When we arrived there had been rain the previous 2 days.

It was still a bit overcast with some wind, but by evening the weather was perfect.

We had one day with rain from 10a until noon, but it cleared off and was beautiful again.

The day time temps were never higher than 83F and the evenings were a mild 75F.

In short, with regard to the weather, we go again in December.

The staff was outstanding, just like our first visit.

Silvia and Memo kept our classes full at the pool and on the beach.

David and Ivan were our awesome bartenders.

We only had to tell them our beverage of choice one time after that it was automatic.

The room was spotless when we got there and every day after the housekeeper was finished.

We ate all 3 restaurants, 3 times each, and the buffet once.

The food was excellent, by resort standards, and comparable to almost any State-side casual restaurant.

Breakfast was always a treat.

Matilda put in the extra effort to make sure everyone had their eggs, French toast, pancakes or omelets just the way they wanted them.

I think we met more people on this trip than we've ever met at any other resort.

(We're 13 time Hedo2 veterans.)

In all, we had extended chats and dinner with 12 other couples over our 10 days at Desire.

Most, we've already been in contact with since we returned home.

It's hard to put into words how the atmosphere at Desire draws people together.

At one point we, had a 3 way translation/conversation going on in the hot tub to bring together English, French and Spanish speakers.

About half of the people we met had been to one of the Hedos.

Several of the folks we met had never been to Jamaica, but were planning to give it a try.

I didn't hear anyone say the preferred Hedo over Desire after having experienced both.

We tried to quantify what it is we liked so much about Desire.

We finally decided that it's the guests.

More to the point, we never encountered anyone who intruded on us or made us feel threatened.

This may be because it's a couples only resort or it may be because the median age group, while we were there, was late 40's early 50's.

Or it may just be that the resort brings out the best in people.

Combine this with beautiful grounds, comfortable rooms, wonderful staff and excellent service; that's a combination hard to beat.

We plan to return again in June and December of 2007, maybe we'll see you there.
