Dan & Lisa, Breezes Bahamas - 10/98

My wife and I recently returned from a short trip to the Super Clubs All Inclusive Resort - Breezes Bahamas, located on Cable Beach in Nassau. The trip was coordinated by our travel club in Indianapolis - Ambassadaire so the flights were basically charters to and from the Nassau International Airport. We arrived at 11am and after claiming our luggage and clearing customs were quickly in a bus and on our way to the resort. It is only a 5-10 minute ride to the resort which we found extremely refreshing after some of the 1-2 hour rides in Jamaica (We have previously been to Grand Lido Negril and Hedonism II). Check in was very quick considering our group was over 100 people. Some rooms were actually ready and luckily ours was one of them. We had faxed the general manager in advance and had requested an upgrade if one was available as a frequent Super Club client. We never expect anything to come from these request but have found that if they are able they will accommodate. We were lucky enough to get upgraded to a Suite (Room 735) which was Ocean Front and had a wonderful view of the beach and Ocean.

The Suites are equipped with two rooms and two bathrooms, King size bed, two TV's with Satellite, two CD players, Refrigerators with soft drinks, bottled water and beer (Pepsi Products), and are more than adequate size. Other amenities include hair dryers and irons with ironing boards. We had two balconies that were just large enough to stand on that overlooked the Ocean, Beach and Circus Apparatus. The room was both clean and looked to have been updated fairly recently.

One of the first things we noticed about the resort was the level of activity that seemed to be happening. The crowd ranged from early 20's to 50's with the majority in their late 20's and 30's. And mostly couples. First impression proved to be correct as there were many many activities going on all the time. The activity directors did an outstanding job of enlisting participation in activities while being respectful to those who only wanted to relax and not participate. While we were there, Jarvis, one of the activity directors seemed to work 24 hours and had tireless energy whether organizing beach volleyball or dancing in the weekly talent show or on the trapeze on Circus Night. Besides those mentioned, other activities while we were there included: Oldies Trivia, Circus Workshop, Pool Volleyball, Bikini Contest, Fashion Show, Limbo Contest, Beer Drinking Contest, Toga Night, basketball tourney, pool tourney, ping pong tourney, mixology class, bouncy boxing and knock your head off. All activities were well attended and participated in while we were at the resort.

Food is served buffet style in the main dining hall for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wine is served with lunch and dinner. In addition there is a sit down restaurant called pastafari which requires reservations and served pasta for dinner. There is also a midnight buffet and snacks available 24 hours. Plus there is a Pool grill open from 11am to 6pm every day, serving burgers, jerk chicken, fries, peas and rice and other grill foods. The food was above average and always a wide variety and plentiful. Much more Americanized than Jamaica. Beverages are self service for soft drinks and frozen drinks for meals. They serve wine and coffee at the tables.

Drinks are readily available at one of three bars, the Piano bar opens at 6pm, the Main lobby bar opens at 11am and the Pool bar opens at 10am. The pool bar includes a swim up section. Frozen drinks and soft drinks are self service. The pool bar has a special Island concoction of the day as well as any premium liquor you can think of wanting plus Beck's and Miller Lite beer (No Red Stripe...disappointed). Bartenders were friendly and service was quick always with a smile.

The pool complex which separates the two buildings of rooms (one 8 story and one 4 stories) is separated into four sections: The swimming section, the swim up bar, the pool volleyball area and a misting area where you can lay your chair in the water and cool off with the misting of the fountain. There is also a 20 person Jacuzzi that was well attended in the late afternoons. The Beach area and Pool area have more than adequate seating. The Beach is smooth and easy on the bare feet although we did notice that it could have been a little cleaner. The swimming area had vegetation in most of it and that caused few people to actually get into the water. Water sports are plentiful: Hobies, jet skies, para sailing, banana raft rides and water canoes are available (some at an extra charge). Beach Volleyball court is active and very nice as was the circus apparatus.

Nightly entertainment is provided nightly in the Main Lobby Lounge area or at the Beach. A resident band is in house to play after dinner and is very good. The piano bar was well attended and the Pianist was excellent. One evening a jazz quartet played in the piano bar and was excellent. Hurricane's Disco was sparsely populated at night. We were there every night ranging in time from opening at 10:30 to 2am and there were hardly any people there at all.

Overall, this resort is typical of our other Super Clubs experiences, which have been excellent. It is not in the same class as Grand Lido Negril as far as Luxury or Hedonism II for atmosphere but for the money it is outstanding. Management and staff do an excellent job of making everyone feel special. Many of the guest were repeat visitors and although we would choose Jamaica for our longer trips, we will absolutely return for a visit next year over a long weekend. We would be happy to answer any specific questions anyone has about the resort.
