Breezes Runaway Bay, Greg & Jo Ann - July, 2002

Supersurprise + 7-258-1,2002. Breezes\HedoIII Runaway Bay Jamaica

We noticed after we were assigned at Breezes, that there was a shortage of reports available for this resort, so we hope that ours will give a little help to others headed there.

We did officially stay at BRB, but we spent quite a bit of the time at HedoIII also, so this will cover our experience at both.

We booked the SuperSurprise + with some hesitation but decided what the heck, the price was too good to pass up wherever we went. The package was with Adventure Tours and we flew out of DFW on Champion Air. Sardines have lots of legroom compared to this 727, but the flight was smooth, uneventful and we had our drink and a little bag of pretzels and all was good 'cause Jamaica come soon.

The Bus ride from hell was enjoyable, as always and in about an hour and a half (beer stop included) we arrived at BRB. Check-in was easy, we drew room 3115 which was really pretty nice, the A/C worked fairly good and the potty kind of flushed (sometimes), and the nude beach was just out the back door (concealed from site of course). OK, since I brought it up, Here is our take on the nude beach. The self-serve bar is a really cool idea but neither of us are bartenders and our drinks just never tasted quite right. We tried our best to hang out here and enjoy it, but it just never seemed right so lets check out the nude hot tub.our bath tub at home is bigger than this thing. Oh well on to the normal side the place.

The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. The beach is fairly large and clean and the spacious pool always busy. The Beach bar and the bar in the lobby were both Great! The bartenders were always smiling and very friendly. If you see Nadine, please tell her the other Gregory sends a big hello. On to the foodAs we expected like most A/I resorts, it was a little repetitious but it was good. The wait staff in the main dining area did leave a little to be desired, it was almost like we were bothering them if we asked for refills or ice etc. The words iced tea really seemed to offend them so we learned to just go get it ourselves and not disturb them. On the other hand, the staff that worked at Martino's would go out of their way for you and the food there also rates a top score in our opinion!

When at HedoII we have never really gotten off the resort except for a brief shopping trip into Negril.(I have to add here that the Tour desk lady is Dianne, she was very helpful for us. She definitely added to enjoyment of our stay. She answered many of our crazy questions and always had a smile when she saw us walking up) This trip we did decide to go shopping in OchosRios and it was pretty good. Made better by our driver Rohan Scott (a really nice guy who answered all our dumb tourist questions and went out of his way to insure our good time). The next day we went to Dunn's river (and enjoyed it very much), The Bob Marley Tour, it was ok (you get to see lot's of the countryside on this one, it is beautiful), and then to Margaritaville which was kinda cool. Once again Scott was our driver and we would highly recommend him. Ok all this was not in the plans, so the small amount of cash we carried with us ran low. We were told by the resort the only way to get cash was a commercial bank (in OchosRios) Hmmm, 30 minutes = $40US just to get there. Found there is an ATM just a 5 minute walk away (10 minutes if at HedoIII). Thanks Dusty for the info. The only catch is that it gives Jamaican money, which is really no big deal, it spends just as well. $10,000 Jamaican = about $200US.

As I had read before we left, a day or night pass to HedoIII is available and no cost. And you can get one for each day/or night, not both. And you have to get them today for use tomorrow. We soon found that as long as your name is on the list, you can pretty much come and go into Hedo as you like. Friday we had a day pass, left for Hedo at 11:00am or so and went back to our room around 4:00am. Pretty much boils down to your attitude, if you are happy and friendly and respectful, you will have No Problem Mon!!

HedoIII is one beautiful place! The Grounds, prude pool, the rooms, the people!! The Nude side is awesome, we were very impressed. H2 is still a very special place in our hearts but now it may have some competition. The staff as a whole here were tremendous, the entertainment crew terrific, the food, the drinks, all good. The guests, just as they are at H2, some of the happiest and friendliest folks you could hope to hang out with (no pun intended). And last but not least, that totally awesome slide!! WOW!!

To get over to H3 will cost you $5US per person each way. That's only $20 per couple round trip, not bad for a 3-minute taxi ride right? If you are staying at Breezes and have a yearning for a little wilder side of life, it's well worth the trip.(Try a Tues. night at the PJ party, you'll never forget it) On the first of several taxi rides to H3, Gregory was our driver. You could not hope to meet a nicer person, keep the name in mind if you are needing a ride he will treat you right, and again tell him the other Gregory said hello, might even get you a discount. LOL

Ok to summarize all this up now.Breezes Runaway Bay is in our opinion a Very nice resort, we enjoyed our time there and will highly recommend it to our friends. BTW for you single guys, the ratio of single guys to single gals looked good in your favor, at least the week we were there. At H3, can't say the same was true for you there.

If you are reading this considering where to go and you party a little harder than "normal" people, enjoy a very social environment, lots of adult fun and activities, are wondering how risqu is too much, then the Supersurprise + may not be the best bet for you. You might want to pay the extra and book direct to one of the Hedos. We met many people on the SS+ and only one couple out of all of them got Hedo3On the other hand if you want a nice resort that is very relaxing, comfortable, and accommodating, give the SS+ a shot. You will save some cash and if you do get BRB, Don't worry mon, you'll be in good hands.

Now just a few odds and ends. 1.) We found the best prices on crafts on the beach in the little shops between BRB and Hedo.

2.) Seems the best prices on alcohol are at the airport.

3.) A small bag of Doritos or Cheetos is $3US at the airport.(get snacks at the resort the day before you leave!)

4.) Red Stripe beer can range in price from $2US to $6US depending on Geography???

5.) Ganja is not in short supply!!

Flight home: Same confusion in MoBay Airport as usual, Champion Air again, same pretzels, same squished seating. But No problem, they got us home and now we are ready to go back again. Next visit come soon!

If you have any questions about BRB we would be glad to try and help, have a Great trip!
