Hedo trip Report

July 11 – July 17, 2014

We travelled via Westjet from Toronto, arriving at the resort in time for a late dinner. We were welcomed back by Sunshine (we have known her since her time as a very young entertainer).

Our prude, garden room was comfortable and freshly decorated etc. Nice!

We had a good week (not counting the large bill for medical treatment of Montezuma’s revenge lasting a couple plus days).

The beach was well maintained and clean with loads of new loungers and umbrellas. Many guests had learned that ‘reserving’ loungers is not socially acceptable. That’s a big improvement. Also the over-supply of loungers is a real help.

Beach security was being overly aggressive (at times) with guests ‘dressing’ to leave for the dining room being harassed — as were some evening guests dropping over for a pizza. Get real please, security — not everyone is comfortable eating without their pants on.

The entertainment staff were alive, friendly and efficient. They were not always helped by group activity (see below). As so often, the DJ’s punch up the volume to ‘their tunes’ so that conversation is inhibited. Is there a clue when the MC at events repeats, “Take it down DJ, take it well down”?

Group activity

There was a large group on site for our visit. They were lively and friendly and inclusive. They also had evening themes and activities that conflicted with the resort’s themes. That was OK but occasionally left non-group members somewhat left out. The resort’s fetish theme conflicted with the group’s theme, so only a tiny handful of guests were on theme. Sad.

The group had some great activities and bands, but they were not overly publicized to everyone. The ABC (Anything But Clothing) theme was fabulous, but why not get everyone involved?

I noticed that the more prominent group members tended to shy away from resort activities. Even the ‘car wash’ struggled to get a full complement of guys for a very personal scrub down (you had to be there — I was!)

Manners

I just don’t get it. Some people are so self-centered they are unaware that they are being insulting and rude. Examples: A sweet young thing asked the barman for a list of available drinks. Then retorted, “I want …”. No please, no thank you, no acknowledgement of his service. Is that just US racism or simple lack of manners?

A table at the Japanese restaurant. Eight guest, seven digital devices being used for photography, phoning, texting, checking status. The chef, doing his culinary theatre was TOTALLY ignored. A tough audience.

Another evening, same location and six or seven men carrying on like they were in a sports bar cheering ‘the big game’. The noise level drowned the chef, the waiters and conversation at other tables.

Three young women in the Italian restaurant, totally uncomprehending of the expression ‘casual elegance’. It does not mean scruffy (not even at Hedo). Their shrieks of across-the-table conversation were endured by everyone in the room.

Hair

There have been a couple of threads ‘covering’ body hair. Well, guest of honor Ron Jeremy has established that hairy older guys, with too much weight and balding heads are OK — and can be surrounded by female guests (at last!)

Picture this: six women in a circle in the pool comparing their various pubic hair solutions — from bald, bald but bristly, to almost full coverage but trimmed. Where else but Hedo!

An informal survey of the three adult erotica channels showed about 80% of pubic areas had at least some hair. A small percent (lost count as I was concentrating hard) had total coverage. On guys it was closer to 50% pubic hair and perhaps 30% body hair. Others may wish to spend their time conducting a similar survey.

Clearly, hair is a more open to personal choice topic this year. Whatever happened to that guy (a few years back) who wandered around with a bucket of warm water, soap and a razor and shaved every pussy he could get to sit still? What a gig!

Changes

There were clear signs of change. The updated Piano Bar was jumping and more spacious. But the sound system does not carry voices well. The evening action was great. Dion and partner are a great combo and loads of fun — toned down a bit with more of a friendly vibe (yes YMCA did get thundering applause).

I tried to get the free WiFi by the Piano Bar but failed. It’s coming soon, along with a coffee shop and wine bar (for a fee, as on cruise ships).

We had a great time. Value for money. But the marketing at groups, while financially great for the resort’s owners might not appeal so much to those who are not groupies. They can easily be left feeling left out or out in left field.
