Terry & Jo - 04/99

After 4 months of reading Denny's Board, all the trip reports and reading Chris's book we finally made it to Hedo. Because of this we felt like we belonged at Hedo when we first stepped foot on Hedo soil. We met up with other people from the visitors page and Monty & Jan's Album. It was really great feeling as though we were with family from the very start. I have read other reports saying the same thing, but what Hedo is really about is the people. Everything else is secondary. We stayed just 5 days. Didn't know any better when we booked. We plan on making up for it next time. Our flight from Greensboro was uneventful. The night before we left though we heard about all the riots in Jamaica. We seem to have that kind of luck. We were planning on switching to the plane due to the trouble but when we got to Mobay everyone said the trouble was over and the roads would be safe so we took our chances on the bus. We did see a truck of Army looking men with rifles but we felt they were on our side. Quite a few people in the streets though had side arms so it did tend to make us nervous. After all that we wouldn't have missed the bus ride for anything. Nice scenery, a lot of farm animals. We actually had to nudge one cow off the road to get by. A cool drink half way there. But again the best part of all was the great people. We finally made it to Hedo and guess what? We ended up at Grand Lido. A great place to visit but no Hedo. We were concerned about what to do at Lido with no undies. Luckily we didn't stay long. We got checked in and not a bad room. Nude hot tub right out side our door so even though it wasn't Hedo we decided to jump in the tub at Lido. For the first time in our lives we were naked to the world and it felt wonderful. What do you think we found in the Lido tub but other Hedo Refugees so it did feel a little like home. You could pick out the Hedo refugees. They were the only ones smiling and having fun. Later that night we went to dinner at a Lido Pasta Restaurant. I have to admit the food is better at Lido. We don't think Lido will accept Hedo refugees after one of our troops decided to try to show off for us through the glass wall and got in the way and got a tray of dishes on his head. Again you could pick out the Hedo refugees because they were the only ones laughing and having a good time. We finished off our first day at the Hedo dining room dancing to the band and ended up at the hot tub where there was quite a bit of action at the waterfall. Stayed there until 2 and made it back to Lido where we ordered a hamburger from room service and had it delivered to the hot tub. This is one thing Hedo ought to try. The rest of our days were all pretty much the same. Beach, Hot tub, pool, Delroys, some days lunch at the dining room, nap about 3PM. Dinner in the dining room. Finished the day at about 2AM at the hot tub. Back at 7AM when the sun came up. Some of our high points out of the normal routine was Thursday night Toga Party. Had a blast. I understand there is still one guy still trying to get his Toga back on. Took the nude cruise on Saturday. We had a great time there. Rasta Ralph is a Gem. Also took the trip downtown to shop & Rick's Cafe. That I could have lived without. Jo thought it was fun. I thought it just took time away from Hedo. Some high points of the stay were watching some very interesting Chess Moves. I think they call it the snatch move. Watching what happens to men that sleep on the beach and what happens to the women that get to close to them with their shaving cream. We did decide to take the plane back to Mobay trying to get every last minute in at Hedo. It was worth the $120. Flew Air Jamaica Express. Not near as much fun though as the bus to Hedo. I would imagine the bus ride back could be quite somber with everyone leaving. I see that I am rambling due to all the days at Hedo running together in my mind. Our favorite thing of Hedo out of all the time in the pool, all the warmth of the hot tub, all the food at hand, all the drinks you can drink, all the beautiful sights at the ocean has got to be what I said at the top of my report is the wonderful people we got to be with. We don't want t o mention any names to protect the innocent (actually there were no innocent but I feel they need protected any way) & I'm afraid I might leave someone out by mistake & I wouldn't want to omit any one. But you all know who you are and we want to thank everyone for the best time we have ever had and hope we can get back together with you again someday.
