Our trip to Hedo was to celebrate my brother's 30th birthday. Six of us went; my brother, his girlfriend, two of his best friends, one of their dads, and myself. It was the first trip to Hedo for all of us. I flew with one of my brother's friends, and we were the last to arrive. Our flight on Air Jamaica left LAX on Wednesday night and arrived in MoBay Thursday morn at 7:30. Great flight, even if the sound system didn't work (they played the movie over the PA system). Most people slept anyway. Upon arrival, we had to wait 20 minutes or so for the bus to Hedo. There was one other guy on the bus with us, and it turned out that he knew my brother, they were in the same fraternity in college. Small world. When we got to the resort, the room was not ready. No problem, mon. We headed to the dining area for breakfast and that first drink. We connected with the friend's dad, headed to his room to change and store our bags, then down to the prude beach to connect with my brother and his girl. After lots of drinks and laying around on the raft, we decided to try waterskiing. Unfortunately, too many other people had the same idea. We were ferried over to the cove in a second boat, waited our turn, but the incoming rain caused the trip to be canceled early. Oh well, back to the dive shack to register for the shallow dive the next day and then to the bar for more partying. I headed over to the nude hot tub by myself and met two great couples. I've already forgot names, so I'll just identify them by state, WI and MN. Then it was off to the room to get ready for Toga night. I really need to thank the dining room manager, Teddy, for arranging a special table for my brother's B-day. He even brought over a bottle of champagne. And when two young ladies from NY stopped by, he seemed to be there immediately with more chairs and glasses. To him, we were probably just another group of guests, but the extra attention meant a lot to us. The talent show was entertaining and the toga party was a blast. Then off to the nude hot tub to relax. This is where one of our group obtained the tag of "Diceman" for his inventive games. The sex police did make a couple of appearances, but only to quietly interrupt when it got too wild and then they were on their way. That was a night I won't soon forget, at least until my next trip to Hedo. Friday started off late, almost didn't make breakfast as we all slept in. Then down to the boat for the 50ft dive. For a guy who has done most of his dives off the beach into the chilly, murky waters of San Diego, this was heaven. Warm enough for no wet suit, great visibility and a nice current to drift in. And the boat was right there to collect us at the end. Note to all divers: Be sure to sign in at the dive shack on your first day at the resort. You won't be able to dive that first day, and you sure don't want to waste a full day later in your stay. It rained a little that afternoon, and I spent some time on the nude beach and at the pool. This was circus night, with the entertainment in the dining area and later down on the beach. Just before the bonfire and games, I returned to the room to lay down for just a minute, and didn't wake up until my roommate came in 4 am. Hell, I should have known better. One should stay awake at Hedo so you don't miss anything, you can always sleep at work when you return. Saturday was our group's last full day. My brother and I started with the 90ft dive. This time, the resort used the Performance 48 boat with the twin 250 Yamaha outboards, an awesome dive boat. And because there was extra room on board, my brother's girl (a non-diver) was allowed to ride with us. There was great visibility, I could even see the bottom from the surface, and again, no wetsuit was needed. When we returned to the dock, there was room on the 50ft dive that was scheduled next, so we went on that one also. This dive was out to the plane wreck, and a divemaster videotaped the entire trip (yes, we purchased a copy of the tape in the dining area the next morning for $35.00). It was on this trip that we had the opportunity to dive with John, who proved to us that you could have fun underwater, even with a disability. Saturday afternoon was great for laying around on the beach, a jaunt to the nude hot tub, then a massage and off to dinner with the group at Pastafari's. After dinner, we walked around the resort and I found all these places that people have been talking about in their posts. I'll have to investigate them further on my next trip. The night ended with a last trip to the nude hot tub to say goodby, then meeting someone from Argentina and a remarkable couple from Germany. Sunday morning saw two of our group leaving before 8 am and two more leaving at 10. We got to stay around until 2, so there was enough time to hit the nude beach one more time. The bus ride back didn't seem that long, neither did the time at the MoBay airport. Soon we were on our flight, direct to LAX. It really didn't hit me until the next morning when I returned to work that my trip was really over. But we all have plans to return again, possibly in October for the next round of birthdays and for a longer period of time.
