Hedonism II April 21-28, 1999

We started out on Wed, April 21st for our second trip to Hedo and almost immediately things began to go wrong. Our very early TWA flight out of our hometown was cancelled for mechanical reasons, which set off a chain reaction of flight changes and even our final leg being made on Air Jamaica into MoBay. I know others have complained about Air Jam, but it was the nicest experience we had that day. Got to MoBay, took Air Negril ($55 each round trip—the cheapest we were offered) to GNAT and very soon we were standing in the lobby at Hedo. Being ONLY 5 hours later than planned we had anticipated being bumped. Sure enough, no room at the inn. First night at Point Village for us. Realizing it would do no good to get upset about it, and being very tired from a day of travel we headed over and got checked in there. Taxis back to Hedo were free of charge and soon we found ourselves back at Hedo, enjoying dinner and feeling quite at home. At this point we couldn’t find any of the people that we had talked to prior to the trip on the Internet. As we would soon find out, EVERYONE who came in that day was shuffled to various other hotels for the night. [As a side note—I think Hedo could do MUCH better in making sure they aren’t so seriously overbooked. People pay ahead for their vacations there, so if someone doesn’t show and they have an empty room just charge the no-shows! I had called down to Hedo the day before and had confirmed our arrival and was told there were no problems with rooms and that one had been waiting. Honestly, I don’t think I would put up with this from any hotel in the states…]

Thursday morning we got up early, packed back up and headed to Hedo, suitcases and all. We were told at the desk that our room would be ready by noon, and it was. We got 2257 which faces out onto the basketball court but we didn’t find the noise to be any problem. By 9 we were heading to the beach for the start of our day. At 10 I walked up to Delroys to order the first of many Dirty Bananas (Which don’t quite taste the same when you make them at home). I stood there and laid my boobs on the countertop and Delroy turned to me and have a big smile—"I remember YOU!" I knew I was home. By mid afternoon we had "found" several of our Internet friends and had begun some serious rafting, drinking and laughing our fool heads off.

My days started to run into each other so I can’t recall what happened on what day, but one of the many many high points were when Elvis made his appearance on the beach…and in the pool next to the bar. An unsuspecting snorkeler got the sight of her life as Elvis (the glasses had moved "down" at this point) walked towards her. Never saw someone backpedal so fast and furious in my life. This became the photo-op of the day for many.

Another high point was spotting Charlie sleeping on the beach. I casually mentioned this fact and 2 of the gals ran to their rooms for "ammo". After taking a "before" photo we got right to it and sprayed him with a combination of shaving cream and silly string (you thought it was something you wouldn’t need—right?). Charlie ended up surprising us when Bev got too close and he pulled her down onto his mess and made sure that she got covered in it too. Of course this started off a chain reaction of sliming a few more of us. The entire pool area and most of the beach are laughing along with us at this point and I am sure it was a sight to behold. Still waiting to see the photos of this one.

We went on the nude catamaran cruise on Saturday morning. This is a MUST to do at least once. Went out to the reef and snorkeled but the water was really choppy which made for a lot of swallowed water. Never saw much. Off to Pickled Parrot, where there are rope swings, a water slide and cliff jumpers. Oddly enough no one was jumping from the cliff while we were there. Charlie did the water slide as did many from the cruise. The rope swing was busy, too. Rained on us on the way back for a short time. HINT- Cover your skin on the water slide as some of the gals in our group got scraped on the rough edges on the way down.

I worked up the nerve to parasail and it was an experience like no other! I highly recommend it to anyone. $40 US and they pick you up at the Hedo dock and drop you back off. If I had done it early in our week I would certainly have done it again. WOW!

STAFF-

It was wonderful to be remembered and welcomed back by so many. Entertainment staff had a new member who started the day before we got there. Welcome to Melanie, who promises to be a wonderful addition. We had the opportunity to visit at length with Robin, Mark, and Melanie. The entire staff at Hedo is warm and friendly. Take the time to get to know them.

FOOD-

Selection was excellent, food was better than last year. I am a pretty picky eater and I always found plenty. No lobster at this time of year. We did Pastafari’s with our friends one night and the meal(s) were fantastic, the service impeccable and the presentation was beautiful.

BEACH-

Rafts were plentiful. Never considered needing to bring one. People on the nude side come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Leave your attitudes at the desk and just enjoy. I am a rather large woman and never once did I feel out of place. Don’t let your body shape determine if you have a good time or not. There was a large group called the Butt Crack Tours who were always on the alert for those who ventured down while clothed. They did go overboard in their vigilance and it did become quite annoying. Many commented on that. I just hope that they didn’t scare away anyone who was trying to get the nerve to take it off and join in. Some of the gals in our group even saw an Anaconda on the beach one afternoon. <grin>

WEATHER-

Rained on 3 different afternoons, 2 of those days were hard enough to force us to our rooms for much needed naps. Usually lasted a couple of hours. Also rained one evening during dinner for about 15 minutes. Other than that it was beautiful. Partly cloudy most days and in the 80’s.

HOT TUB ACTIVITY-

Sex police were absent and if you were a voyeur you got plenty to watch. Never once heard the term "No SA in the PA" this trip. There was sex in the pool, sex in the hot tub and sex on rafts in the ocean. Didn’t bother us a bit and no one seemed put off by it at all. Most nights the hot tub was very full by midnight and I guess stayed that way well into the night. I never made it past 2AM. Only one night was the water temp in the hot tub "too hot". They are learning. Vinnies and Wallys were abundant and easy to spot.

SNORKELING-

Grab a snorkel from the dive shack and head to the beach in the mornings. If you go near the jetty there is much to observe. This was much more enjoyable than the trip out to the reef. One afternoon a very large stingray was observed just under the surface right in front of us. Cool!

There are a few people that I would like to thank for helping make this the most enjoyable trip. Dave and Cora – is it nap time, or a leg cramp? You guys are the best. "Wiggle Wiggle". Helen and George – you need to turn your raft AWAY from the beach! Thanks for the very kind words that last night. I won’t forget it. Jo and Terry – fun couple. Bet this won’t be your last trip to Hedo! Mark (Elvis) and Sandy – resident toe sucker and entertainment committee, had a blast with you. My ribs still hurt from laughing. Ed- next time don’t leave so soon! Great guy who is NOT anything close to being a Vinnie. Hope to see you again. (Nice buns, too). Jim and Bev – next time stand further back when using silly string – or not! Neils and Karen – the newlyweds – and Pete and Helga, and Mike and Judy -wish we had had the time to get to know you better. Loved meeting you.

Also thanks to Denny and Monty and Jan (congrats to the newlyweds!! ) for giving us this forum to have the opportunity to meet people online so we have all ready made friends before we ever got to Hedo.
